Current Event - Ted TV
http://www.ted.com/talks/thomas_thwaites_how_i_built_a_toaster_from_scratch.html
I loved this video because it's amazing that not only did Thomas Thwaites succeed in making a toaster on his own, but that he even thought to attempt to make this toaster. I'm drawn to this idea because it is so creative and out of the box. This also interests me because if I had the time, I wouldn't mind starting a project like this, as crazy as it is. I admire him for not only branching out and embracing his curiosity, but also displaying his project for the world to see. I might have been a little embarrassed of an experiment like this.
I was confused as to how and why a quote from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" inspired Thwaite's motivation to make a homemade toaster. Douglas Adams states, "Left to his own devices, he couldn't build a toaster. He could just about make a sandwich and that was it". I believe he may have been trying to prove to himself that he could compete with the main character in the book who could not build a toaster. I was surprised to discover that there are approximately 400 parts to a small toaster, and if I were Thwaite, I probably would have given up during the process of counting them. This video article was fascinating to me.

This article is about using the different functions of your brain every day. This is so interesting to me because I didn't realize that it's actually unhealthy for your brain to avoid memorization, attention, and language skills.
